1.Bingo backers drown out governor

...To shouts of “Down with Riley” and faced with signs comparing him
to Adolf Hitler, Riley defended his position on electronic bingo, which
he maintains is illegal.
Legislation asking voters to legalize electronic bingo is pending in the
state Senate, but it's stalled while supporters try to line up votes.
“My message is if you want to change the law, bring the bill, but today
the reality is slot machines are illegal,” Riley said.
More than 1,000 people attended the anti-bingo rally.
Later in the day, country music artists addressed a smaller pro-
bingo rally that was more orderly and uninterrupted by opponents.
Ivan Flannagan of Eutaw is a landscaper whose livelihood depends
partly on the wages of clients who work for or sell goods to
Greenetrack's bingo casino. He attended the rally with a sign urging
legislators to support bingo legislation that would keep Greenetrack
open and preserve its hundreds of jobs.
